Naughty Nokia? Maps Not Free for All
January 24, 2010 by: simon.reeveThe other day I saw an item on news.zdnet.co.ukabout Nokia releasing OVI Maps 3.0 with free navigation for everyone. Ooooo… Yippee. I’ll have some of that, finally leave the TomTom behind. It seems about time, as so many of us already have sat navs that come with free navigation
After downloading and installing to my 6220 Classic, I was very dissapointed. It still keeps asking me to go on-line and pay for directions. Looking at the OVI site again http://www.ovi.com, it clearly makes the statement at the bottom “Navigation On Your Nokia, for Free, For Ever. mmm for Ever? Well for me it’s ‘Not even now, let alone ever!’
Doing a Goolge and looking at Nokia’s own forums, its seems it’s free, but not for all Nokias. You can download 3.0 for loads of models, but only 3.03 is the one with free navigation, though they don’t make this clear, leaving a very bad taste in your mouth.
Very disappointing.
